Wemyss Castle Estate/Wemyss-Fife Firewood has sold Firewood and Christmas Trees from their 1000 acre Fife woodlands into the local market for more than 60 years. Initial Firewood sales were mainly to the mining community where green logs were used by miners to supplement their coal allowance. In more recent years, with the increasing use of wood burning stoves the market has moved to air dried hard and softwood logs sold in bulk or bagged.

In 2008 - 2009 the demand for Firewood expanded hugely, this due mostly to the rise in fossil fuel prices and an increasing awareness of the environmental benefits arising from the use of renewable energy as a heat source.

With an abundant supply of hard and softwood trees all within 3 miles of our timber yard we decided in 2010 to make a substantial investment in Firewood preparation and handling equipment to better meet the demands of the local market. This investment programme was completed in the Spring of 2011 to give increased supplies of firewood from winter 2011.

With this investment in place we are committed to the production of quality air dried firewood with the lowest possible carbon footprint, no timber will have travelled more than 3 miles before being processed, unlike much Firewood now available in Scotland which has come from Central Europe. In addition to striving for the highest quality we are looking to be able to guarantee continuity of supply; a customer who commits to an annual requirement will never be left short.
